Hi JustWatch,

First of all, thank you for making JustWatch!

I’ve been using your service since 2017, and last summer I became a paying subscriber.

I am excited to see that you are hiring UX designers because I would be a great addition to your team.

UX / PRODUCT DESIGNER
REPORTING FOR DUTY

While digging for more Scandinavian crime dramas, I had some observations and ideas that demonstrate my approach to UX and I'd like to show them to you.

IDEA 1

Suggest new streaming networks based upon a user’s Watchlist

Based upon casual research with my peers, people tend to subscribe to 4 to 6 services at a time.

They add a network when a show they really want to see is on it. But they never really know if they are keeping the "right" networks for them.

I'm curious to see what your user research reveals, especially regarding their subscribing and unsubscribing behavior—and whether or not they remember to update their services in JW.

I’m curious about my fellow JustWatch users:

  • How many services does the average user subscribe to?

  • How often do people change their subscriptions?

  • Do their selected services in JW match their actual subscriptions?

  • What prompts users to subscribe to a new streamer?

  • Could JW help people choose new subscriptions?

  • Would that be good for business?

IDEA 2

Allow customization of suggested sub-genres

I feel like JW really knows me when it shows me TV/Movies that score over 8.0 on IMDB and Top Made in Europe shows.

I wish there was a way to get more of the sub-genres I like and less of the ones I do not watch.

IDEA 3

Reveal a show’s synopsis on hover

I use this category a lot. I trust my fellow JW users who share my preferences.

When I want to know more about one of these shows, if I forget to Shift-Command-click to open that show in a new tab, I lose the original suggestions.

And I would rather not lose those suggestions.

If I could hover over each suggestion and read its synopsis, it would help me decide which ones to explore further.

IDEA 4

Add the ability for users to make personal, private notes

Admittedly obscure, this feature might only appeal to ubergeeks like me.

Frequently I’ll start to watch a show only to realize I’ve already watched some (or all?) of it. When I first watched the show, I thought maybe I’ll come back to it.

A little note to future me would be awesome:
Watched 20 minutes. Implausible story, but top-notch cinematography.

Or maybe I want to remind myself why I put something on my Watchlist:
Julie’s fav. Says it’s violent, but worth it.

I would use the heck out of this feature, but only user research would determine if the average user would make use of it.

Danke schön

Thank you for taking the time to review my work.

I hope my unique skillset of UX Design, Product Design, UX Writing and Visual Design are all apparent in these examples.

I live to collaborate and I dig that team energy where we create great works together that none of us could have produced alone.

I look forward to learning more about your UX needs, and discussing how I might be of service to JW.

Thank you for your time!

Sincerely,

Hyland
